January 8 Forum to Feature County Judge Race

A candidate forum set for Thursday, January 8, will give voters an opportunity to meet and hear from candidates who will appear on the March 3, 2026 Republican Primary ballot. The event, sponsored by Cooke County Republican Women, will be held at the Christian Life building at First Christian Church, 401 N. Dixon, Gainesville. Doors open at 6:30pm, the meeting starts at 7pm. The event is open to the public.

The forum will feature the two local contested races. Three candidates have filed for the position of County Judge, to succeed County Judge John Roane who opted not to run for reelection. They are Fred Haiman, Kerri Kingsbery and Karla Metzler. In Precinct 4, Phil Reiter is challenging incumbent County Commissioner Matt P. Sicking.

In addition to the forum, all uncontested candidates have also been invited. They are Andrea Townsend for Judge, County Court at Law; Marci A. Gilbert for District Clerk; Lisa Mayes Newton for County Clerk; Susan Wells for County Treasurer; Jason M. Snuggs for County Commissioner Precinct 2; John J. (Jody) Henry for Justice of the Peace Precinct 1; and Carroll L. Johnson for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2.
